My Favourites
World of Faeries.
Asian Body Jointed Dolls - ABJD - my new passion, hobby and love. Until Dec 2, 2008 I was happy watching pictures of other peoples' dolls on the web and molding my own prototype from Cernit. But then I reached my limit (after 5 years of drooling) and ordered my very own Luts Kid Delf BORY. She arrived before christmas and we have been playing and designing her make-up and wardrobe ever since. I love making clothes for her. I love building her room in my book(less) shelf. I've picked her a brother and an older sister too, for when I have the funds to get them, too. ^____^
My photo albums of Ronja and the head without body that was a free event gift, Kaamos, can be browsed at my Google Picasa account. (Though captions are in Finnish.) Aren't they the most beautiful thing in the whole wide world? Could anything else make me as happy as these beautiful creatures?
Names
First I thought most Asian Body Jointed Dolls have Japanese names, as the first dolls came from Japanese Volks. Many of the hobbyists also enjoy Manga and Anime and other Japan-influenced activities. My doll was Korean, so I toyed with the idea of a Korean name, but realized I don't know the language and would just screw up. So finally I decided on a Finnish name. I listed about a million names and words meaning natural things, but didn't find the one I was looking for. Then I came up with Ronja. Ronja is a character in Astrid Lindgren's novel Ronia the Robber's Daughter. She says she came up with the name from a Sami word Juronjaure, which means "ridge upon a lake".
The big boy's head that came as extra was going to be Kaarna (tree bark), until I found out it was a girl's name. So he became Kaamos (polar night), as he was a winter event gift. I'm most probably going to name Ronja's brother Ruska (the autumn phenomenon that makes tree leaves yellow and red). So these three names are all connected to Lapland and nature. I also have plans for a girlfriend called Tähkä (ear of wheat) and a little boy called Tuhto (a part of a boat and a character in Tove Jansson's Muumit (and that made me want a Ninni too!).
Favourite Dolls
I fell in love with Luts Kid Delfs quite suddenly and unexpectedly. First Cherry and then Bory, and I just had to get that white peace of heartbreaking resin for myself. Until then I had thought I would never go for such an expensive toy. I defended my decision of buying by claiming I could use her as a mannequin for a line of dolls' clothes that I could sell and thus earn back what she cost. Rrright. Well, I have had some queries about selling the clothes I make, but I have also spent a fortune on doll accessories, fabrics, furniture and more. I' also going to buy my next doll very soon, a brother for Ronja from Doll-zone in China. AND a girl from Bobobie, Mei, as she has my name! Oh well and she's soooo pretty.
If I had a ton of money I'd go for the big dolls as well. I have fallen in love with Rosy from Supia a thousand times already, but cannot afford her. Also a Limhwa half elf girl would be a nice option. Next in line is a superhero-bodied gorgeous man from Iplehouse. Then for the little ones, I can't decide, they're all so adorable. Pukipuki Cupid from Fairyland showing his tongue is cute but Bluefairy's Pocket Fairies are cutest. Or maybe Latidoll Coco or Byurl. Endless possibilities as there are about a million doll makers! Falling in love every night as I browse through these sites. <3
Face-ups
I wanted my doll white and without make-up. I wanted to paint her face myself. Painting such delicate features and lines with bad equipment and materials was hard and I was scared it would look unprofessional. But I made it and now I have even started to overlook my mistakes. Unfortunately or luckily I need to do at least the eyes again because I bought her brown eyes. I love purple, but Ronja just was a brunette. All the face-ups wit WIP pictures are in one album.
Clothes
Initially, I only wanted to make doll clothes. Fortunately it has been the most fulfilling part of the hobby, but not the only aspect to it. I'm not very professional, but I do make my own patterns and design the clothes. I want to get better at it so I sew something new every week. There hasn't been need of ideas either. All the clothes I make for Ronja are in one album.
